Title: Happy Days
Post by: kvz2000 on March 07, 2018, 07:11:00 PM
My Disco TD5 has just passed its MOT again , I’ve had 3 years of trouble free motoring and really like the Disco but I have considered selling it and getting something newer .
The recent MOT is the first time I’ve had to get some work done to get it through the MOT , it needed two small areas of the chassis welded so I had it steam cleaned , welded and the Waxoiled , it’s only covered 117k miles with service history and after looking at what else is available on my limited budget I think I’ll just keep a hold of it . It’s had the air suspension removed and lifted 2” , has a good winch and winch bumper etc etc .
If I was upgrading it would be to the TD6 and from what I read they don’t seem to be as reliable and any major engine works seems to be more complicated. My friends TD6 has had endless problems so I’m thinking it’s better keeping mine knowing it’s so reliable.
I also know of a nice Mitsubishi Shogun estate but again it would probably cost me a couple of thousand to change and I’m not sure it would be as good off road as mine.
I also wondered what everyone thinks I would ask for mine if selling , its an 02 TD5 as above I would say in excellent condition .

Sometimes its better the devil you know, the disco has served you well and had all work required done on it. My sister TD6 has had countless work including the electronic handbrake, oil pump, timing belts, both egr's, gearbox oil renewed and loads of other bits. Nice when it works, expensive when not.

I had a shogun and it was horrible, cost me a bit in repairs as well as the fuel filler neck rotted, let water in and wrecked the fuel pump. I would personally stick to an older landrover, parts are cheaper and easier to work on. No idea of value of yours, best have a look through forums or gumtree for an idea of prices.

Cheers,
Iain

Thanks Iain ,
Appreciated your comment , I tend to agree with you , I’ve a bad habit of getting fed up with a vehicle and changing just for the fun of it , but this disco has served me very well and as you say I know it’s solid and very reliable so should just keep a hold of it , prices seem to vary from £2000 to £3500 and more so guess mine should be some where in the middle .
Cheers
