The missus was reporting her 110 had a squeeling power steering belt and it sometimes felt juddery so tightened up the belt and topped up the fluids may be a failing power steering pump... thought id check the 90 at the same time and the belt was very loose oops. Today fitted rear bumperettes to the 90.

I met the excellent fireblade, zoomed all over central Scotland picking up parts for the 300tdi conversion and heard some difficult truths about my Landy, sympathetically broken to me by Shug.

Yesterday with the help of my best buddy Colin fitted a disco 1 transfer box to my 200tdi
What a difference it's made to my landy, it's like driving a different car, if you are thinking of doing this easy mod go ahead and do it you won't regret it. Going to give her an oil change and drain the water too, nice wee drink of fresh fluids are in order. All the other oils were changed through the week..

Took out today into town (Edinburgh) nice drive and warm and stopped to check air in tyers and pleaseny found only back where out a bit and front drivers as suspected was low but all done and had a good drive in , getting use to having overdrive and I just admit it does make a difference noise wise, getting up to speed was easy enough as all roads round here are max 50mph so easily kept to speed limit and wasn't holding up traffic in any way I think she loved having a good run.

Fixed the lights on the stock trailer by lashing on a trailer board, then up to Glenfarg to collect 4 pigs. Scenic route home in the rain via Dunning and Auchterarder.... Got home to find the pigs were asleep ! Lord knows how they managed that in a very rattly Ifor Willams, especially given the potholes on our track at the finish.

With the dog, to the vet. Dog sedated and whoozy on the way back ( stitches in leg)  - crap everywhere, including in my toolbag.  Among other feats he's managed to neatly fill the 27mm wheel-nut socket.  The jump leads look like a particularly colourful Spaghetti Bolognaise.

Lucky its all hose-able, including the dog.... !

Simple jobs that take ages.... Fixed the dud indicator. Its been playing up since the drive home from the last MOT....when the garage fixed it to get it through the MOT. Which was odd, because it was fine when it drove there....

Anyway, opened it up to find that the garage had added several extra connectors and re-routed the earth. Worked back through it to find a broken connection on the feed and that the new earth was a dud too. Stripped out their handiwork back to the original wiring, added a foot or so of cable to the lamp to give myself some elbow room and connected it all back up. Works fine.

Ho hum.

again worked on brakes on the s3 and replaced master brake cylinder and re-bleed brakes and finally got brakes but i think root of my problem may be flexi hose on one or all need replaced as brake pedal went soft after 4hrs left unused and only went solid after second pump?? oh well will check again using clamps and see if i can locate the problem in the morning, only got about 2 weeks to gets this done before weekend trip or will be arriving as a spectacor in motorhome with camera grrr
anyway early morning start on it fingers crossed will get it fixed.

took the old S3 to show old owner how it looks now and he was very delighted and went to travel home, then disaster struck  agh thought I was bad at gear change as crunch went the overdrive crunch went the gear change and then no clutch at all just a soft pedal  agh
got parked up safe at road side by using the revs to slip into gear and out to park up safe, up with bonnet bean can dry as a bone, had by chance some brake/clutch fluid in back filled up and under I went to try bleed it, quick call to mate along road to come help and still wouldn’t bleed grrr, anyways had just been upgraded to silver by AA for free so thought why not that’s why I pay it, 2hrs wait and nice bloke turns up to assist, a bit of grunt and moan and him covered in oil lol got some clutch which was enough just to get home and signed chitty at end, so ordered up new bits from slave to master clutch and pipe work all ordered up for less than £50 to get her on road again ,

Morale of story, no trip out, is never without it exiting parts lmao.

I had the same problem with mine and it was a flexi hose.  Only problem after that was after replacing the flexis, the bleed nipples sheared off so new wheel cylinders and then new copper pipes and first time on the road after that the master cylinder failed, then when that was fixed a rear hub seal failed so dumped all the oil on the shoes so when they were changed the adjusters wouldn't work but I think its all fixed now. (Fingers firmly crossed).

Fitted new windscreen washer bottle/pump since broke  last one, i rob tubbing off it at side of road to try bleed  the clutch when  it went on me, also re-tried to get last of air out of the breaks, but still it taunts me and remains there hidden inside the pipes,  if i get chance and able too i when i get a chance will jack it up at 45* on each side to try get the air  out one way or anther.

Picture of wheels from a few weeks ago, V spokes from a RRS. Still have the Duratrac tyres though.

Mine went to work, and then back home. I also found out how little impact £15 of diesel has on the gauge. Payday can't come soon enough.
I have priced up the parts for it's next installment of maintenance. I'm going to go lie down and cry for a bit now... haha

Okay got s2a to drive out of garage and reverses and drive back in , got roll bar if and tub to be plesently surprised to find the chassis is better than I hoped and only the bad bits I saw need fixed , well the long slog of sanding/stripping down the chassis, axels and fix and replace a footwell and get it all painted / treated begins. Ah the joys of being a landy owner lol oh and I think major achievement was it drove after 13+years sitting unused or checked by previous owners is fab news for me.

And installed the Scottish Suicide tally board, little critters keep jumping out in front of me..

Be careful  - some humourless tree-hugger will take offence at that and take a key to your motor :-(

In a similar vein I once peeled a "Property of Hampshire Police" sticker off a traffic cone and stuck it on the vehicle. 3 days later I got a visit and a po-faced lecture...

I got made to wash my car by work today...

Well, by wash it, i mean take it to a local place and let them swear at it while trying to wash off my nice collection of mud and dirt collected from across Scotland.  ;D

Have a machine polisher from a mate so "Huey" the D3 shall be brought back to proper shiny once again. It's the least i can give him after a good MM showing.

Made a make-shift exhaust out of a nissian tino old one I had sitting and started up my s2a and boy she is quiet I havnt done the oil, filter, fuel pump well you get the picture so thatsnagement to be done mainly it was to turn her over to check wiring at rear and just as suspected its dead so must be badly joined or cut within frame by P/o but that's tommorrows investigation fix, ground down some more areas ready for welding and that's al I did on her.
Thought I turn over a go for a wee drive in the S3 but got bellowing black smoke coming out exhaust I was blinded and couldn't see but after a quick post on the s2c forum and a swift answer from whitsend big thanks by the way I got oil bath oil changed and went for a wee drive all good and working great .
Need too look for a thick piece of plate metal to attach winch to chassis now so laters folks.

took off handbrake and stripped it down, ground the rachet part where the bolt pivet goes through down a touch  and reassembled handbrake and its working perfectly now, cut and made a 90* bracket for bump stop and for the first time in a long long time welded it on and started cross member weld also and i am impressed at my work better than i expected and looks alot better than some of the welds po has done, well back to rest as all stiff and sore welding at some strange angles just to get it right and knee acting up so tablets and rest laters. ???

Looked at it while putting a new blade on the log-saw.

MOTs up on the 21st so I better sort a couple of niggles tomorrow - washer pipe is blocked, wiring to one rear light is playing up and one rear shocker needs the bottom bushes renewed, so I'll do both sides.

( Dunno what brand of bush the PO used but they were rubbish. I doubt its done 3k miles since the shockers were replaced. )

Thanks. I didn't paint it this colour, in case you were wondering, it was a recovery vehicle across in Fife for most of it's life (Chas Davidson, Buckhaven)

I'll be keeping an eye out for green lane runs in the new year - and may even get the steering a bit more 'accurate' by then as well :-)

Like what you have done to her real nice love to see what additions you added inside too?
Anyways I having to go and see if I can fix my poor engine it may be to sick to recover as on drive home she lost all power and chug to a halt but with full revs I just managed to get her home, suspects are block oil pick up, knackered fuel injecters and what I hopping its not is blown head anyways Saab first then onto her laters.

She has 2 VW seats and a BIG heater in place of the middle seat, other than that pretty standard. Can't spend too much time on her as need to get the LWB project moving forward (along with far too many other projects!)

Good luck with engine, hope it's nothing too costly.

hi dalbuie i know that landrover very well , it was never used for recovery work, chick bought it around 15 years ago after getting his transit stuck on leven beach launching a speedboat, around ten years ago it had a lot of work done , if memory serves me right the engine was partially rebuilt or replaced, it had clutch etc then as well. it was used mostly to tow a speedboat between his house in leven, the garage at buckhaven and leven beach. latterly it was replaced by a forklift and newer 4x4 when he took on the bigger mastercraft as a business.
it was generally well looked after and never went in the sea. the big heater came from a leyland leopard, alexander bodied bus, it sat in the cubby box space and blew straight at the window, this was for getting in after water skiing. it was the heater from under the passenger seats that blew out at your feet in the bus

Thanks Piper,

I saw the Accident Repair Service on the side, the rescue lights on the top and the tow bolts front and rear so made 2 and 2 add up to 5  :) I have the pics below from the history pack so you may recognise the faces. It's in overall pretty good condition for 50 but if I keep it I might change the rear springs to parabolic as it's a hard ride, far worse that my 1941 Chevy Pickup.

John, Good luck with the engine, fingers crossed!

The colour is the exact same as BMW bright red. Had a can lying around and decided to use it to touch up a few bits and it was such a good match I bought some cans of it and did the sides where the previous stickers were  ;)

Fitted a new wing skin and inner wing and straightened the headlamp panel after a truck walloped it a few weeks ago.
(http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii108/greigboy/B57B4640-BB2F-4595-ADBD-EFE0E5EB28AA.jpg) (http://s262.photobucket.com/user/greigboy/media/B57B4640-BB2F-4595-ADBD-EFE0E5EB28AA.jpg.html)

I got an unwelcome surprise though when the wing was off to find part of the A post totally gone, had I known I would have bought a new section, however the rot was confined to the inside edge and time was against me for getting one posted up during the holidays so I cut the rot out, fabricated a piece and welded it in.

(http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii108/greigboy/65E9A665-1A04-4359-9DD7-85A9A7280BE4.jpg) (http://s262.photobucket.com/user/greigboy/media/65E9A665-1A04-4359-9DD7-85A9A7280BE4.jpg.html)

Its now all ground down, seam sealed and schutzed, so not as straight forward a job as I had hoped and despite several soakings of WD40 just about every bold either sheared or had to be cut off as its the first time in 26 years they have been off :)

PS Sorry for the photobucket pics the site only allows tiny sized image files which is impractical if not using a pc

Picked up the motor (D1) from Starthearn following it's Waxoyl treatment (pleased with it, BTW).  Then, as kids slept in back of car managed to change oil/filter.  All good.  Job tomorrow (time allowing) is change out axle oils and replace glow plugs.

Happy new year to all when it comes, Alan.

Done the back passenger bearing as the bearing seal was leaking and the hub was mingling inside, following a good tip I checked the axle breather and the banjo fitting and bolt were blocked solid with crud, so cleaned that out, changed the diff oil and jobs a good in.

I also had a look at the o/s front chassis "dumb iron" section which is pretty badly corroded, I remember doing one a few years ago and the replacement section being about £25, their now about £100 :( so I might just fab a piece up.

Now that 'Little Red' is finished - and being used most days - I've tried to push on with the LWB SW.

Welded and loosely fitted the new sills, B post repair sections, C post repair sections, chassis brackets and now fabricating a couple of brackets (and removing others) as the new chassis (fully repaired and painted with Bilt Hamber Electrox) is from a LWB VAN and there are some differences from the SW.

Need to order YRM second row floor, rear floor and some other bits so may need to sell the SWB to fund this one  ;)

Worse now since I can't get out to do them.

Replaced the solenoid last night but could not get it to run, just coughed and stalled. Head scratching and investigating fuel system followed...in the dark in the yard, by head torch. Took me half an hour to spot I'd knocked the accelerator connecting rod off when removing the bonnet.

Doh.

Stripped the axle on the N/s front as that wheel is snatching on occasion, looks like for the first time in many years as every bolt was rotten. I expected to find a knackered CV joint or collapsed bearing but no, everything was fine, issue must be in the diff and I found it was a 10 spline disco one when I thought it was going to be a 24 spline like the rear.
Oh well a replacement 24 spline axle goes onto the ever growing list :)

:) Finally after a hectic week got a chance to wash Manor Powis off the P38 , should have done it last Sunday as it was dried in .
Then tackled my recurring overheating problem that I had thought I'd cured , hoses off at the bulk head and flushed every possible way
whilst I changed all the head light bulbs , then re-assembled , took it for a long heavy labouring run , up the Breich Braes twice , and the
temp gauge never went above the 11 o'clock position so sorted ( touch wood ) .Then changed the near and offside complete wing mirror
assemblies , looked at the location and accessibility of the heater motor resistor on my car (Vectra ) not unfortunately a Land Rover , as
we all know how easy it is to work on a Land Rover .  LOL  ;)   Duncan

Stripped out the sunroof from the 90 and reinstalled it on a bed of nice new sikaflex, after gluing the window shut on a bed of the same stuff. Filled the entire gap between the window and the surround with sikaflex for good measure. Hopefully that will stop the damn thing leaking. Fed up with having to drive about sitting on a plastic bag.
