Billy, are you trying to put a taper on an origional tirfor rope? Other winch rope is not the specific size needed and usually has a soft centre core.

Yes the original cable jammed so I cut the bad end off,but I need to taper the end to rethred it into tirfor,
I know that when it's new it is machine welded to a taper, I was hoping for a cheat way of doing it

It is NOT a good idea to use other than Tirfor Maxiflex rope in a Tirfor winch, the action of the winch when in use will damage normal rope which will lead to premature failure. It is not a good idea to use other than the specified rope.

try dipping the end in molten lead to fill the core then cut to shape. blowlamp and plumbers solder/ flux may do the same

Tried that , rope too rusty to tin lol
Any way I have managed to wrangle the wire in to the tirfor winch , I will clamp the cable end so it can't be pulled back out , so I'm good to go
Cheers All
