The Scottish Classic RTV Trial – Sunday 1 July 2018

Following on from the successful “Leaf Sprung” Road Trim Vehicle (RTV) trial which started in 2011, the club is pleased to announce the inaugural Scottish Classic RTV Trial which will now feature two classes. Running at the front of the field will be the leaf sprung vehicles, followed by everything else including those with coil or air suspension.

What is different about this RTV trial? It will be laid out in classic RTV style with help on hand for first timers. It will not be an RTV championship counter, but instead will be a relaxing bit of fun at the start of the summer holiday period.

Why open it up to all vehicles? As our classic “leafers” become less numerous, increasingly aged and require more maintenance (a bit like the organisers!), the number of competing leaf sprung vehicles is reducing.

The trial will build on the success of previous years’ events where much old time trialling was to be had. It will consist of non-damaging but occasionally quite technical sections, each with 10 pairs of gates. There are some good photos of previous years' events on the website if you want a look.

The site is at Dechmont Ranges, near Cambuslang, South Lanarkshire and will open at 8:00am with scrutineering taking place from 8:30am and the start 10:00am. The location is at Grid Reference NS655590 and access is from the main road at Grid Reference NS653593, Cairns Rd, Cambuslang, Glasgow G72 8RZ. The site is best approached from the A724 at Grid Reference NS667589, Flemmington Farm Cottages, Cambuslang, Glasgow G72 8YE.

Willing helpers for marshalling duties will as ever be most welcome. The site will be sign posted (with orange arrows), from the B Roads nearby.

Like last year, this will be a very sociable event, with ample opportunity for those who wish to try their hand at RTV trials and double or triple enter a motor. The aim will be to recreate the trials of the 1960s and 70s and will not be too competitive.

Entry is the usual £15 per driver. Club membership cards must be presented at signing on; membership costs £25 per year and new members are most welcome.

If you want a few laughs come along and join us.
