Wanted 8x4 trailer
« on: August 15, 2018, 12:13:55 PM »
Hi all.
Looking for a general duty 8x4 trailer.  Must be a brand name.
Ifor or Bateson.
Will prefer braked one but will consider non braked.
Dont mind if its single or twin axle.
Cash waiting.

 Caution!
If non-braked it will be limited to 750kg gross weight which you might find limits the use you may wish to put it to.
Always better to have brakes anyway. Little point in having an 8x4 limited to 750kg.

Hey there.

Thank you for the advice. Yeah I am in two minds what to do, a Braked one would certainly be more handy but its really just for skip runs and there would be few times it would have move than a few hundred kilo. Aslo a bit easier to move around. So keeping my options open. Defo agree braked is the much better option though.
Thanks for the reply and if you see.anything available drop me a line.

Cheers.

Rod

I might be wrong but I don't think Ifor do an unbraked 8x4 ?

If you are getting a trailer that size it makes sense to get a decent one, there will be that time you need to shift a pallet of bricks...

If its not broken you are not trying hard enough....

Depending when you passed your driving test your licence may limit the size/weight of trailer you can tow, it has caught out a lot of the horsey brigade. That is why driver training firms have set up specialised training for this as separate test has to be taken, I think the date is April 1997 but worth checking.

Hi Gene.

Good to here from you. Its been a while. Yeah 8x4 is Ifors largest non braked but there not many about. Totally understand what you mean about there being that one time I will need a bigger pay load. I will probably end up getting something with brakes but time is against me at the moment.
Woll maybe end up buying new but I really grudge the VAT . Pay enough to the government as it is.

Yeah I am ok with regards to my license.  But thanks for the advice.  It may help other that are not aware of the law.

Cheers for now.

My Ifor was bought new probably 15 years ago, its built 2 houses since then. Bombproof, I can't fault them.

Hi folks.
Thanks for all the comments.  Put a deposit down on a Ifor 8x5 twin axle.
Hi Gene , totally agree . I do have a 16ft flatbed while it is a fantastic trailer its to big to manhandle and to big for skip runs. The new one will be perfect.
Cheers for and hope to meet again sometime in the future.

Cheers

Confirmed the date for the for the driving test change was 1st January 1997, after that a separate test is required for towing a trailer.
