Building an ALRC Class 1 Trialler - Triumph Herald rear spring modification

Good Morning All,

I'm currently building a Class 1 ALRC trialler having sold my old one some 20 years ago.

I have a hazy memory that you could take the rear spring off a Triumph Herald, remove the top two leaves, replace them with the top two leaves of an 80" rear spring which gave you a softer spring.

Does anybody here have any knowledge or observations?????

Sounds like a lot of flaffing about.
Why not get a set of parabolic springs ?
Having said that. I ran a set of lightweight springs on mine and did quite well.

It was Alex Lyndsay that pointed me in that direction, perhaps he could help you.

Thanks for the reply. I want to keep the vehicle looking pretty standard where I can along with using period modifications. I'm too 'old school' for fancy parabolics.........

I've got 5 leaf lightweight springs on the front already. My previous vehicle had standard 80" springs front and back.

As I recall the Herald spring conversion was common once upon a time.

The way I drive I'm not sure it would make any noticeable difference :) ......................
