Hi Folks, we've started pulling together a plan for the weekend, as follows -
Friday afternoon - arrive at campsite, pitch tents, get settled in and then possibly go for a walk round to Duart Castle - Friday evening barbecue.
Saturday morning - set off around 10am (in small groups) for leisurely drive across to Fionnphort, to arrive around 11:30 and take passenger ferry across to Iona - spend a couple of hours on the island with picnic lunch. Around 2:30, drive minor road down to Fidden, round to Bunessan and down to Ardtalnish beach. Then head back in direction of Craignure, but take the road that follows the coast round Ben More, up to Salen, then south east back to Craignure for an evening on the campsite and a fire on the beach.
Sunday morning - set off around 10am, drive back up to Salen where we turn left and a few miles further on, take a right to head round the far west coast. Our route takes us up to Calgary Bay, Dervaig and then over to Tobermory where we are booked in for the distillery tour at 2pm. Leave the distillery around 4pm, for a photoshoot in Tobermory and then drive back down to the campsite.
These drives will give us the opportunity to see most of the island and its scenery. Most of the driving will be on single track, and part of the routes are on the edge of the sea, but we are still investigating access to some off-road driving to make it even more interesting.
The whole weekend will be very informal and flexible (apart from times of distillery tour) so you can come and go as you please.

sorry I thought this was on here
Some people are looking for a plan and a structure to the weekend, hence the itinerary broadly outlined above. However all of this is completely optional - feel free to join in even just for parts of the route, or go off to do your own thing.
Once we make progress with off-road options further details will be added here.

Mull Travel Plans - seems like quite a few of us are taking the 12:20 ferry on the Friday. If anyone wants to meet up for the journey, could I suggest following meeting points -
-those from Stirling area and the east, meet in Callander in the car park behind the Dreadnought Hotel on the right of the main Street (heading north), not far past the traffic lights in the centre of town.
-those heading up from Glasgow and the west meet in Lomond Shores car park at Balloch.
Both groups depart at 9.
These groups (+ anyone else) could then meet at Green Welly car park in Tyndrum, departing from there at 10:10. That should give plenty of time to get to Oban for 11:50 check in (and any last minute shopping).
Who's up for that?
