Which way round to fit rubber hard top seals
« on: October 20, 2019, 10:12:21 PM »
OK. Stuck a bit.

I am fitting replacement hard top sides to my series 3.

I am putting in the rubber seal between the hard top side and the tub.

There is a single channel in the rubber seal. Does it face out or in?

Neither makes any sense but I don't have any reference.

Anyone done one recently?

We all know that small cars are good for us. But so is cod liver oil. And jogging.

I've got a 11A workshop manual and it says " sealing rubber, lower edge to body ".
If the seal is the same on an S3 it sits on the tub and then the side goes down on to it. The picture isn't very clear.

          Probably no help   Pete. :-\

The seal between the side and the tub is rectangular with a fin on one of the short sides.
The side with the fin faces to the top.
The open end of the fin faces inwards on the vehicle.
The fin fits into a channel on the underside of the side panel.
The long side of the seal on the outside of the seal is glued to the inside of the outside of the vehicle.
(hard to describe, easier to understand if you have one in front of you!).
Hope this helps!
